Serve the City

Cornerstone's "Serve the City" event is an opportunity for the Cornerstone Family to extend the love of Christ through acts of kindness and service during the Thanksgiving week. We are mobilizing the church body to reach out into the community throughout the week, but then our hope is that we will all continue to seek opportunities to serve throughout the year! Join us for hands-on projects and activities that will allow each of us to love and serve our neighbors. Read through the opportunities below, see where God is leading you to serve, and then click on the link that will take you to the registration page.

Senior Support Program

Come alongside individual seniors in the tri-valley to help with tasks around their home that they are no longer able to do easily. We will serve by helping with gardening, cleaning and/or household maintenance.
Dates: Monday, Nov. 24 or Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 9 - 1pm

Home Clean-up

Interested in taking on a challenging but rewarding home clean-up project? Join us as we partner with the City of Livermore to clean out and clean up the home of someone who is a chronic collector. The work can be difficult, but it is necessary for the well-being of the homeowner as well as the neighborhood.
Dates: Saturday, November 22 or Saturday, November 29. (8 hour days)

Livermore Community Thanksgiving Dinner

This is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to the community at a time of year when many yearn for fellowship and kindness. Join us on Wednesday as we assist with the preparations. This includes picking up flowers, picking up turkeys, setting up the facility, decorating, and even making desserts. On Thursday we will prepare and serve food, deliver meals, pick up individuals and help clean up.

**Volunteers must attend a meeting on Wednesday, November 12, 7:00pm at the Bothwell Center at 2466 Eighth Street, Livermore. At this meeting you will receive information about the dinner, the available jobs, and you will be able to sign up for a specific job.

Livermore City Preservation Cleanup Projects

Join one of two teams to assist the City of Livermore in cleaning up and preserving our city! We will be partnering with the City to remove trash/brush and to paint over graffiti along a portion of the railroad tracks as well as the Arroyo area. This is a very practical way to spend a few hours on a Saturday to serve our community!
Date: Saturday, November 22, 9:00am - 4:00pm.

Open Heart Kitchen

Livermore (Food Distribution) - We will assist with the organization of food products and will help monitor the distribution at Asbury Methodist Church. Minimum age 12 with parent.
Dates: November 25 and 26. Shifts are available.

Livermore (Meals) - Join us as we prepare food, setup, serve, set-up and clean-up to assist OHK in serving the community a hot, nutritious meal at Asbury Methodist Church. Minimum age 16 years old. Younger children not permitted.

Pleasanton (Meals)- We will be coming alongside OHK to assist with preparing and cooking food, as well as serving a meal to the Seniors at Ridge View Commons Café. Minimum age: Food prep - 16 years old; Serve - 14 with parent.

Public Servant Appreciation

Join us as we bake pies and cakes and deliver them to various fire and police stations as well as hospital nurses stations in the Tri-Valley. Let's reach out with God's love to show our appreciation!

Wal-Mart Gift Wrapping

Livermore & Pleasanton - The Friday after Thanksgiving is one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Join us as we offer to gift wrap customer's purchases, for FREE! We will be wrapping at both Wal-Mart locations from 9-3pm.

Serve the City Center Projects

Located at 460 N. Livermore Ave. We have partnered with Vineyard Christian Fellowship to open a community center in downtown Livermore, in a joint project to reach the homeless, needy and working poor of our hometown.:

Family Fun Day

Join us in providing a day of fun for families surrounding the "Serve the City Center". We will provide a BBQ lunch, activities for the kids, and a "store" for the families to choose donated clothing, blankets, etc. We will need many volunteers to assist with the BBQ, to serve food, staff the "store" and help with various activities for the children and youth. What a great way to shower Christ's love on a community with many needs.
Date: November 22 from 9am - 5pm. Shifts are available.

Monday Evening BBQ

We will continue the BBQ's we have been hosting over the last two months. Join us as we set-up, prepare, and serve a meal, as well as to provide children's activities and music.

Thanksgiving Baskets

We are partnering with Shepherd's Gate to provide Gift Baskets to families in need. You will be given a list of items to include in the basket, and then will drop it off at the Serve the City Center. The family will pick it up there on Wednesday. Approximate Cost: $40-50.
Date: Deliver to Center on Tuesday evening, between 4 and 7pm.

Thanksgiving Basket Distribution

At Serve the City Center - Families will come to the Center to pick up their basket on Wednesday, November 26. We need help distributing them between 4:00 and 7:00pm on Wednesday. We will also provide refreshments, simple activities for the kids and will enjoy visiting with our guests.
Date: Wednesday, November 26. 3:30-7:30. Two shifts to choose from.

Niles Canyon Train of Lights

Niles Canyon Train of Lights - Special Edition Cornerstone Fellowship & Friends
When: Tuesday, December 2 at 7pm, Boarding starts at 6:15pm
Where: Sunol Depot, 6 Kilkare Rd, Sunol
Cost: $22.50 per person (children 2 and under are free) Space is limited.

Nothing prepares you for the magic of Christmas like a ride on the Historic Niles Canyon Train of Lights. You will be transported back in time as you board a fully restored train at the Sunol railway station and wind through the Niles Canyon. These trains have been decorated with 10,000's of light and decorations. Sing carols, sip hot cider and have a cookie (available in the dining car) with your family and friends. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available, but you will find yourself sending much of the 70 minute ride cruising up and down the train. It is general seating, wheelchair & handicap access is available.

PLEASE try and carpool. Parking is limited and dress warm and for the weather. Train leaves at 7pm so make sure you give yourself time to park and get on the train.

Hope for the Holidays

Each December the women of Cornerstone Fellowship gather together for our annual Christmas Dinner/Event. Twinkling lights and 88 uniquely decorated tables transform the auditorium into a touch of holiday magic. Seated at tables of eight, women connect with one another for a Christmas Celebration that is often referred to as the highlight of the year. This year our festive meal will be presented by Scotts Seafood of Walnut Creek and our special guest is renowned author, speaker and singer Renee Bondi. Renee has been a featured guest at Woman of Virtue Arena Events as well as The Billy Graham Evangelistic Radio. (For more information visit www.reneebondi.com)

Register early--This event is so popular that we host it for two nights! This is the perfect evening to reach out to a friend, neighbor, relative or co-worker. What a wonderful time of year to infuse hope into the heart of someone you care about. To learn about being a hostess please read the hostess guidelines. All hostesses will meet October 6th at 7pm in the Event Center at the Livermore Campus for a mandatory meeting.
